Virgis Puodziunas
Virgis Puodziunas was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. He studied at the Modern Dance Theatre AURA in his hometown, the Eric Hawkins Dance School New York, the Tisch School of the Arts New York, the Bennington College and the London Contemporary Dance School. After finishing his studies, he danced at the AURA as well as with the Eric Hawkins Dance Company and the Wendy Perron Dance Company, both in New York. From 1996 until 1999 he worked as a dancer and choreographer at the Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar, Germany. In 1999, he danced for the first time with the company Sasha Waltz & Guests with who he has worked regularly since then. From 2001 he worked as a dancer and artistic associate for the dance department at the Staatstheater Kassel, Germany, where he also realized his own multimedia projects. Virgis Puodziunas has directed several films, of which »25 cent« and »mad butterfly« were screened at the festival »dance on screen« at Radialsystem in Berlin in 2007. Virgis Puodziunas has participated in numerous pieces by the company Sasha Waltz & Guests, most recently in »Figure Humaine«, »In C«, »SYM-PHONIE MMXX« und »Beethoven 7«, among others.
