Melissa Figueiredo
Melissa Figueiredo is a dance artist, born in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil.
Graduated from the FUNCEB Dance School, she holds a magisterium degree in dance from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) Brazil. She went through different technical training in Ballet, Brazilian traditional dances, Flying Low and Passing Through with David Zambrano, Piso Móvil with Vladimir Rodrigues, and different improvisation approaches. She has experience with movement research, creation, improvisation, video, and writing.
Since 2015, she’s been a co-director and founding member of the Nii/Colaboratório, heading creative projects that dialogue with physicality, cinematography, and dystopian narratives. Currently, she’s been collaborating as an assistant and production manager on creative projects with the artist Edivaldo Ernesto and working as a guest of the company Sasha Waltz & Guests.
Melissa has also been developing her own choreographic and audiovisual works that have been staged at festivals in Brazil, Mexico, France, El Salvador, French Guiana, Costa Rica, Germany, Nicaragua, and Paraguay.
In the field of education, she leads workshops and masterclasses in different schools and festivals in Europe and South America.
