Xuan Shi
Xuan Shi was born 1975 in the Yunnan Province of northern China. He studied Folk Dance at the Central College Peking between 1986 and 1992. Subsequently he had worked with the »Kanton Modern Dance Company« for eight years and toured through the USA, Great Britain and Germany. In 2000 he was invited to be a guest student at the Folkwang Hochschule, Essen. In 2001 he received a scholarship to work in America,
where he collaborated with the Shen Wei Dance Company. In 2008 and 2009 he choreographed together with Niannian Zhou the duets »Parallel«, »Moving« and »The Sound of Qin« produced by Sasha Waltz & Guests in the framework of the support programme »Choreographen der Zukunft«. He also participated in the dance project »MusicTANZ - Carmen« within the education program of the Berliner Philharmoniker, where he took part in the choreographical and pedagogical realization of the project with over 100 pupils. Xuan Shi has been working with Sasha Waltz & Guests since 2002.
