Sasa Queliz
Sasa Queliz was born in 1971 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She studied classical ballet at the Dance Academy Articentro Miriam Bello and theatre at the National Art Academy for Drama, Bellas Artes Santo Domingo. From 1990 until 1992 she was a member of the Ballet Classico Nacional and simultaneously studied modern dance at the Dance Academy Lourdes Ramirez. She danced for the companies Danzahoy and Neodanza (Caracas), The Public Eye–Sara Gebran (Copenhagen) and Compagnie Angela Guerrero (Hamburg). From 1997-1999 she worked with Labor GRAS in Hamburg. Her own choreographies include »A-Des Tiempo« (1999), Santo Domingo, »Why is this reality?« (2003)-Choreographisches Zentrum NRW Essen, »0, Würfel, 1« (2000), Kampnagel Hamburg and Ljubljana, Slovenia, plus a collaboration with Jan Pusch »Who knows, Maybe Tenessee« (2000)-Lübeck. She took part in »Reverse me not« by the Canadian choreographer Benoît Lachambre.
Since 2001 Queliz is a company member of Sasha Waltz & Guests and has since danced in numerous choreographies of the company. She was also involved in the dance project “MusicTANZ - Carmen” (education project of the Berliner Philharmoniker), working with over 100 pupils and also participated with the Forsythe Company “Human Writes”.
She has given dance classes and workshops at Danzahoy (Caracas), Labor GRAS, Kampanagel, Tanzfabrik and CDHS-Contemporary Dance Schule (Hamburg), National School of Dance (Santo Domingo), Historical Project in LABAN (London), Sasha Waltz & Guests (Berlin), and Toula Limaous (Berlin), among others.
