Nicola Mascia
Nicola Mascia, born in Italy, is an independent performer and choreographer based in Berlin. He studied ballet with Loredana Furno at Balletto Teatro di Torino and completed his education in contemporary dance in Rome and LA.
Mascia was member of the Schaubühne ensemble, guest soloist at the Royal Swedish Ballet and also works as rehearsal director, trainer and teacher. With Matan Zamir he founded the choreographer duo matanicola in 2005. Their body of work includes stage productions and site specific performances. Since 2021 he pursues his choreographic practice independently.
Mascia collaborated with Emio Greco/PC, Benoît Lachambre, Constanza Macras, Jeremy Wade, Meg Stuart, Yasmeen Godder, Peaches, Hanayo, Julian Rosefeldt, Mike Bouchet, Luca Guadagnino and others. He was lecturer in dance at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon; Zentrum für Zeitgenössischen Tanz, HfMT Köln; HMDK Stuttgart; Lewis & Clark College, Portland and Konzervatoř Duncan Centre, Prague. Mascia received the Kurt Jooss Prize in 2007 and the best onscreen performance award at the Toronto Moving Pictures Festival in 2004. Nicola Mascia joined the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests in 1996 and is involved in the creation, performance and international touring of pieces and the improvisation series »Dialoge«.
