Sergiu Matis
Sergiu Matis * in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. 1991-2000 he studied dance at Liceul de Coregrafie in his hometown and afterwards at Akademie des Tanzes Mannheim as a scholarship holder of Tanzstiftung Birgit Keil. He started his professional career at Tanztheater Nürnberg. Since 2008 Sergiu Matis has lived in Berlin and has worked with – among others - Colette Sadler-Stammer Productions, Yossi Berg, Oded Graf, Daniel Kok and Jee-Ae Lim. He completed the Masters Programme Solo/Dance/Authorship (SODA) at HZT/UDK (University of the Arts) Berlin in February 2014 and was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. He choreographed his own pieces such as »Keep It Real» (2013), »Fake - the real deal« (2014), »Explicit Content« (2015), »Simuliert« (2015), »Deleted Scenes« (2016), and »Neverendings« (2017), presented in Berlin and internationally. Sergiu Matis considers the voice an instrument of dance equal to the body and likes playing with language in the form of performative texts, choreographing meaning and ideas, flirting with poetry, theory, and sounds. Since 2009 he has danced in various productions of Sasha Waltz & Guests. »Exodos« ist the first piece for which he worked as a rehearsal master.
