Silke Bake

Silke Bake lives in Berlin and works as a curator, dramaturg and cultural manager. She has worked regularly with artists as a dramaturg and mentor, and as a dramaturg for various institutions (including the Theater am Turm, Frankfurt, the Hebbel Theatre, Berlin, and Tanzquartier Wien), and has organised programmes (festivals, series, laboratory and discourse formats) for, amongst others, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the Akademie der Künste and the Tanzfabrik in Berlin, the Kanuti Gildi Saal in Tallinn, the Theaterformen festival in Braunschweig and Hanover, and the Impulstanz festival in Vienna.

In 2008 and 2009, Silke Bake was dramaturg and project manager of the IN TRANSIT performing arts festival at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin; she co-curated the biennial NU-Performance Festival »On Hospitality« as part of the Tallinn 2011 European Capital of Culture programme, as well as »performance platform. body affects« at the Sophiensælen in Berlin. From 2016 to 2018, she served as artistic director of the biennial programme for the Tanznacht Berlin festival, as well as the Tanznacht Forum from 2015 to 2019. In 2018, she was a visiting professor on the Solo / Dance / Authorship (SODA) Master’s programme at the HZT (Inter-University Centre for Dance) in Berlin. She is currently General and Artistic Manager of the FEMINIST FUTURES programme run by the European network apap – advancing performing arts project. She represents the Tanzraum Berlin network at the Inter-University Centre for Dance and, together with a group of artists and curators, founded the FreelanceDanceEnsembleBerlin.
