Mikko Gaestel
Mikko Gaestel, *1982, Hamburg, is a video artist, filmmaker and photographer living in Berlin and Munich. He studied video art and experimental film as a master student at the Berlin University of the Arts and fine arts at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik. Since then he has worked as a video artist on numerous international productions in the theatre context, including for Rimini Protokoll, Moritz Ostruschnjak and Lola Arias.
His video performance »ARK1«, developed in collaboration with choreographer Colette Sadler, premiered in 2021 as part of Tanz im August in Berlin. His independent works in the art context have been exhibited internationally, including at the Goethe Institute New York, Bremerhaven Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Helsinki, Future Gallery Berlin, Dumbo Arts Center New York and the Gallery of Modern Art Glasgow. His documentary film »The Great Fortune« won the international competition at the Belgrade International Documentary Film Festival 2016.
