»Sacre« is returning to a Berlin stage
Sasha Waltz's choreography returns to Berlin just under a year after its revival in 2024 taking place on 6. 8. 13. and 15. June at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden with Staatskapelle Berlin under the musical direction of Giedrė Šlekytė.
In June, Sasha Waltz's choreography »Sacre« based on Igor Stravinsky's modernist masterpiece »Le Sacre du Printemps« will be performed at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
Sasha Waltz's timeless, archaic choreography was first performed in Berlin at the end of 2013 under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim with the Staatskapelle Berlin. The premiere also featured the choreography »L'Après-midi d'un faune« to the music of Claude Debussy, which has since formed the three-part evening »Sacre« together with the »Scène d'Amour« from »Roméo et Juliette«.
On the occasion of the revival in 2024, Sasha Waltz has once again turned to Claude Debussy's »L'Après-midi d'un faune« and reworked the choreography, which premiered on 27 June 2024 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
»Sacre« by Sasha Waltz was developed in 2013 to mark the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky's musical work »Le Sacre du Printemps« and premiered with the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet in St. Petersburg. This was followed by a performance at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, the venue where Stravinsky's ballet music was first performed. The choreography was then added to the repertoire of Sasha Waltz
& Guests and performed for the first time in Berlin in 2013.
