A successful start to the season

Sasha Waltz & Guests kicks off its new season with 10 sold-out performances over 5 days and 2 productions at Berlin’s Radialsystem

From 26 to 30 August 2026, Sasha Waltz & Guests kicked off their season with ten sold-out performances in front of an audience of around 3,000 at Berlin’s Radialsystem. Since early 2025, the Berlin-based dance company has successfully increased the number of performances in Berlin, and with the previous season’s programme, Sasha Waltz & Guests are continuing this positive trend in 2026 as well. Furthermore, by staging two pieces, the programme brought together the choreographer’s early work with her current creative phase.

»Zweiland« (1997), a significant early work by Sasha Waltz, has been revived after more than 10 years and passed on to a new generation of dancers. Two different casts celebrated their premieres with the piece on 27 and 28 August 2026. »Zweiland« is a blend of fiery dance and poetic imagery: against the backdrop of a symbolic wall, rhythmic, high-energy movement sequences illuminate the pulsating atmosphere of a street. Sasha Waltz’s fast-paced and surreal choreography, set to »Pictures from Germany«, is almost exactly 30 years young – and explores borders and the act of overcoming them. Everyday situations pushed to the point of absurdity meet character studies and fairy-tale-like imagery. The spectacular, multi-layered production – received with enthusiasm by audiences – seems more relevant than ever in today’s world. For those who couldn’t get hold of tickets for »Zweiland« this time round: the production returns to the Radialsystem from 10 to 13 December, with advance ticket sales starting in mid-October.

At the same time, the audience was able to experience the latest work by Sasha Waltz & Guests. In »for the time being«, the ensemble draws from a shared source of living imagination that unfolds through movement, voice and language. In a ritual of presence, inspired among other techniques by Mary Starks Whitehouse’s »Authentic Movement«, the performers immerse themselves in altered states of consciousness, by opening the senses, awakening memories, and following emotional and physical impulses in all their fragile intimacy and complexity. The practice is rooted in the principles of »Deep Listening« (Pauline Oliveros) and in a radical embrace of every action and reaction within the collective, free from judgement. Through continuous mutual inner and outer witnessing, and through the ever shifting energy of the space itself, a kaleidoscope of the present comes into being: a vivid encounter with the here and now. The audience witnesses and becomes part of this active practice and a moment-born process of becoming and transforming.
