In June 2026, we will be performing two of our classics at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele: »Beethoven 7« and »In C«. We will also be creating a very special evening to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut. Advance ticket sales have begun!

At the heart of the two-part evening »Beethoven 7« lies the question of how personal freedom and social constraints relate to one another. Together with 14 dancers, Sasha Waltz devotes herself to Ludwig van Beethoven’s »Symphony No. 7 in A major (Op. 92)«. This distinctive music resonates with questions of his time that still play a role for us today: the failure of a revolution, the (forced) return to old traditions, the friction between the desire for social transformation and restoration, and the accompanying loss of freedom and prospects for the future. Accompanied by the live-performed electronic sounds of Chilean composer Diego Noguera, entitled »Freedom/Ecstasy« and created during the creative process, Sasha Waltz takes up these themes in the first part of the evening and reinterprets them from a contemporary perspective.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that an increased noise

level is to be expected during the first part of »Beethoven 7«. In

addition, bass tones in a low frequency range can lead to physically

noticeable vibrations.

Sasha Waltz’s »In C« is a colourful exploration of the world of minimal music and, at the same time, democracy in dance. Based on Terry Riley’s revolutionary 1964 composition of the same name, the choreographer worked with 10 dancers in spring 2021 to develop a choreographic score comprising 53 movement figures within an equally open structure. The choreography combines a clear set of rules with structured improvisation, which leaves the dancers room for individual freedom and ever-changing variations – thus making every performance unique. Central to this, too, is the relationship between individual freedom and social responsibility, which is renegotiated time and again by the performers over the course of the evenings at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele – to the hypnotic and energy-charged interpretation of »In C« live performed by the Swiss post-industrial band »The Young Gods«.
