We’ll kick things off on September 19 at 7 pm with »Open Studio: Stage« — a format through which Sasha Waltz & Guests aims to provide a space and a stage for the creative potential of Berlin’s dance scene. Once a month, on a Saturday evening, we invite performing artists from the fields of dance, performance, music, and more to present an improvisation, a work-in-progress, or a short piece in front of an audience. Each edition concludes with a short group improvisation by all the artists and a feedback session between the participants and the audience. In September, we’ll be presenting the 26th edition, and we cordially invite you to join us.
Applications for a slot are accepted at any time; please send a brief description and a resume to László Sandig and Francisco Martínez. Groups and duets are also welcome to apply.
On Sunday, September 20, we’ll open our Studio A from 4:30–6:30 pm for professional and experienced dancers as part of the »CoinciDance« workshop. »CoinciDance« combines the experimental spirit of »Open Studio: Jam« with a focus on instant composition in groups. Each session will be led by different dancers who will guide participants in exploring various improvisation concepts. The workshops will be accompanied by live music to create a dialogue between sound and movement. The September session will be led by Mauricio Axayacatl Cruz Márquez with live drums providing musical accompaniment.
As always, we’ll wrap up the »Open Studio Weekend« on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 pm with »Open Studio: Jam«, an open improvisation session for artists of all disciplines. Experienced artists and newcomers from Berlin and beyond—from the fields of dance, music, visual arts, theater, singing, philosophy, and many more—are invited to join in and flexibly participate in a collective, open improvisation process. »Open Studio: Jam« is a space for encounter—it offers a liberating environment for lived pluralism and the exchange of diverse forms of artistic knowledge, collaborative research, brainstorming, and the exploration of new perspectives.
