»Kreatur« from 11 to 14 December at Radialsystem

In this work, Sasha Waltz and 14 dancers explore phenomena of existence against the current backdrop of a divided society: power and powerlessness, dominance and weakness, freedom and control, community and the individual. Dance arises here from tensions between creatures sharing the same living space. Shared turmoil, ecstasy and the search for protection cause the dancers to merge into a single creature, only to dissolve again into individual destinies, entering into new conflicts and connections. States of power and powerlessness, dominance and weakness, community and isolation, illness and lust reveal themselves to be facets of the same, dazzling nature. These beings' struggle with the chaos of their own impulses reflects the private and social challenges of our present day.

For »Kreatur«, Sasha Waltz collaborated for the first time with fashion designer Iris van Herpen, lighting designer Urs Schönebaum, and the music and performance trio Soundwalk Collective. »Kreatur« is thus also an interplay of artistic voices united by a strongly interdisciplinary approach. The sculptural costumes, which appear both organic and technoid, were created by Iris van Herpen. The Dutch fashion designer, who combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative digital technology, is known worldwide for her progressive work. Urs Schönebaum designs lighting concepts for theatre and opera productions, exhibitions, performances and installations worldwide, including for Marina Abramović, Robert Wilson and Michael Haneke. The musicians of the Soundwalk Collective (Berlin/New York) incorporate methods from anthropology, ethnography and psychogeography into their cross-genre sound compositions.
