Showing Children's and Youth Dance Company 2025

On 30 June and 1 July 2025, around 100 young dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests' children's and youth dance company will once again show what they have been working on over the past year in their annual show at Berlin's Radialsystem.

For the second time, the youngest children aged 6 to 9 from the children's dance Group 1 will also be performing. This time with the piece »Treeeees«, accompanied by live music (piano: Neslihan Schmidt).

Training and Choreography: Fernando Balsera Pita, Mata Sakka and Neslihan Schmidt

In »Welleneffekt«, the young dancers of the children's dance group 2 (aged 9 to 11) engage in a dialogue with live music (Alexander Nickmann) and explore their playful connection to percussion.

Concept and Idea: Alessandra Defazio and Annapaola Leso

Choreography and Training: Fernando Balsera Pita, Alessandra Defazio, Annapaola Leso, and Alexander Nickmann

Afterwards, around 20 young dancers from Group 3 (aged 11 to 14) explore questions of identity in the production »Constantly becoming«. It explores questions of identity, belonging, demarcation and community: who am I, who do I want to be and who are we? Starting with a rope, which is both a material and an object, they explore knotting, wrapping, tension, weaving, swinging and hanging.

Concept and Idea: Alessandra Defazio and Wibke Storkan

Choreography and Training: Alessandra Defazio and Jirí Bartovanec

Music: Alexander Nickmann

After a short break, the oldest group (14+) will present their latest piece »NEXUS«: In a world full of divisive conflicts and existential crises, choreographer Wibke Storkan, together with a group of 27 teenagers/young adults and musician Ali Hasan, searches for what connects, interweaves, promotes community and provides support. »NEXUS« links questions about our responsibility in the world and the transformative potential of collective creativity. The rhythm set in motion, the shared carrying of weight, joint breathing and music open up a space of collectivity in which we can both recognise ourselves as different and understand ourselves as equals.

Choreography and Training: Wibke Storkan

Choreographic Assistance: László Sandig

Cast History

The Children and Youth Dance Company of Sasha Waltz & Guests

A playful approach to movement and dance forms the basis of the work of Sasha Waltz & Guests' children's and youth dance company at the Radialsystem, which has been growing every year for more than 18 years. In 2006, Sasha Waltz stabilised her work with young dancers, which she had already begun in 2004 with a project in cooperation with »TanzZeit - Tanz in Schulen« and subsequently continued independently. Since then, the work of Sasha Waltz & Guests' children's and youth dance company has been continuously developed and expanded with a permanent home in our studio in the Radialsystem, Berlin. Today, the young dancers are individually supported in four age-graded groups. Based on playful and experimental approaches, the children and young adults can train their movement and further develop their talents.

The children's and youth dance company by Sasha Waltz & Guests is a project by Sasha Waltz & Guests in co-operation with the Radialsystem and supported by the Radial Foundation.
