Support for Berlin Mondiale

Berlin Mondiale is in acute danger due to the budget cuts of the Berlin Senate. Should these cuts be finalised as of 19 December, the funds for Berlin Mondiale would be completely eliminated. With your help, you can support Berlin Mondiale in continuing its work, realigning its network and ensuring cultural participation for many people in the future.

Since 2014, our long-standing partner Berlin Mondiale has been an indispensable network involving more than 100,000 people. The organisation has built a dynamic, city-wide network of artists, cultural workers and social organisations, facilitating collaboration and engagement in more than 8 districts. Over the last decade, Berlin Mondiale has worked with numerous individuals, institutions and projects from a range of disciplines to make art and culture more visible and accessible to people on the margins of Berlin, particularly those with histories of migration, asylum and exile. The sudden cut in funding jeopardises important educational programmes and risks undoing years of work to support Berlin's diverse, underrepresented communities.

The announced cuts will also hit the precarious independent scene, programmes to promote diversity, participation and inclusion, as well as anti-discrimination educational initiatives and cultural projects in decentralised districts, particularly hard. Many institutions and programmes are even facing 100 percent cuts and are thus facing complete abolition within a few weeks. The Berlin Senate has decided to cut funding for the youth culture initiative and Berlin Mondiale from 2025. This decision at such short notice not only endangers the teams of these projects and their programmes and networks, but also means that hundreds of children, young people and adults will lose access to cultural and educational opportunities, spaces for intercultural dialogue and exchange, and much more.

As a publicly funded cultural institution, Sasha Waltz & Guests takes responsibility for its social environment and has been committed to the promotion of young artists, working with the Berlin dance scene and a cosmopolitan, diverse and cross-generational community for many years in the field of education and community. Sasha Waltz & Guests has been part of the Berlin Mondiale network since 2016. In intensive and successful collaboration, numerous dance and music formats have been developed for socially disadvantaged young people and residents of refugee shelters in Kreuzberg and Neukölln. Most recently, the project ‘Move Your Kiez-Spandau’, funded by the Youth Culture Initiative, was launched in cooperation with Berlin Mondiale. In 2024 and 2025, a diverse, participatory and free programme of dance and music formats was to be created together with local actors, with the aim of sustainably strengthening the cultural participation of young people.
