Training: »An Intuitive Body« with Michal Mualem

The class is based on release and other dance techniques, finding awareness of gravity in relation to our own weight, reaching a wide mobility of each body part, letting go of unnecessary tensions, and exploring movement using the minimal effort. Michal Mualem likes to put a specific focus on the origin of each movement, finding the impulse of an action and its first initiation physically or emotionally.

We’ll search for the continuity of a movement sequence reaching in and out of our centers, arriving at our limits of expansion and our extreme compact body, using improvisation and structured exercises as a tool for a deeper investigation of the body and its natural mechanisms as well as the body as a channel of communication with others both physically and energetically.

Michal Mualem

Biography: 

Michal was born in Israel in 1974. She studied Ballet, Contemporary dance, composition, contact and improvisation. In Israel between 1994 and 2001 she worked with several companies and choreographers such as: Liat Dror&Nir Ben Gal company, Niv Sheinfeld, Inbal Pinto, Noa Dar dance group. In 2001, she started her collaboration with Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin as a dancer and performed in »noBody«, »Körper«, »insideout«, »Impromptus«, »Dido & Aeneas«, »Sacre«, »Orfeo«, »Roméo et Juliette«, »Continu« und »In C« among others. She has also danced in different Dialoge-Projects of Sasha Waltz & Guests such as the openings of several cultural institutions worldwide. In 2008, the Italian choreographer Roberto Zappala has created the solo piece »Instrument 2« for her . Since 2012 she is assisting Sasha Waltz as a rehearsal director in reviving repertory or

handing over pieces to other companies. Since 2006 she teaches contemporary dance, contact and improvisation in Israel and Europe, as well as repertory from Sasha Waltz & Guests.
