Sasha Waltz & Guests meets tanzmainz
We are very much looking forward to our first collaboration with tanzmainz - it's about time we finally met: The ensemble in Mainz is adding Sasha Waltz's choreography »In C« to its repertoire. And that's not all: on 26 and 27 March, dancers from both companies will dance »In C« together on the stage of the Staatstheater Mainz, accompanied by the Philharmonischen Staatsorchester Mainz as part of the tanzmainz festival. Just two days later, on 29 March, the festival audience can look forward to the choreography »Beethoven 7« by Sasha Waltz.
Over eleven days, choreographers from all over the world will be invited to the tanzmainz festival. As part of our first collaboration with the successful contemporary dance ensemble in Mainz, we will be represented twice in the programme:
Musically accompanied by the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Mainz (Philharmonic State Orchestra), tanzmainz and Sasha Waltz & Guests will perform »In C« together on 26 and 27 March.
Sasha Waltz's colourful exploration of the world of minimal music is based on Terry Riley's revolutionary and open composition of the same name. Together with ten dancers, the choreographer developed choreographic material in spring 2021 that follows a similarly variable structure and therefore leaves room for ever new variations. »In C« is an experimental, constantly evolving process that rethinks the long-standing working approach of Sasha Waltz & Guests and the dialogue between dance, music and space, both digital and analogue.
With »In C«, the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests began a new, experimental and constantly evolving artistic process in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the world premiere on a livestream from the Radialsystem on 6 March 2021, Sasha Waltz's choreographic material has been passed on to a constantly growing dance community, divers »In C« projects have since emerged internationally. We are delighted that tanzmainz will now also include the choreography in its repertoire.

We are also delighted to have been invited to the tanzmainz festival with the production »Beethoven 7«. The Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Mainz will accompany the second part of the evening, after Diego Noguera's live elctronic music shapes the first part »Freiheit / Ekstasis«.
