Training with Renate Graziadei
Renate Graziadei's training has two main focuses:
In the first part of the class, focused tension and relaxation exercises are used to stretch the muscles and release tension. Through this work, we aim to encourage a change in habits in order to start a learning process with the goal of moving more efficiently.
In the second part, we will continue to work on the efficient alignment of the skeleton. Through this alignment work, we will try to develop a personal understanding of movement sequences in the body. During the course, we will work with elements such as momentum, weight flow, relationship to gravity, breathing and impulse. The focus is on using geometric clarity in the individual movements to consciously direct energy through bones and joints in order to expand the movements in the body while connecting the body/movements to the space. The aim is to explore the function of the body and its efficiency in movement, so that we move from an inner knowledge rather than an external form.
Renate Graziadei, born in Austria, began her dance training in Switzerland. She then studied, worked and lived in New York for three years, where she danced with the Nina Wiener Dance Company, among others. After returning to Europe, she worked with Rui Horta at S.O.A.P. Dance Theatre Frankfurt and then joined the Hamburg dance group COAX. In autumn 1994, she founded the collective laborgras with Arthur Stäldi, and the two have realised numerous productions and projects together since then. Graziadei has been involved in various productions by other artists; however, her longest and closest collaboration has been with the choreographer David Hernandez since 1999. In the annual critics' survey conducted by the magazine ballett international/tanz aktuell, she was named a distinguished young dancer in 1997 and best dancer in 2010. Since 1996 she has regularly taught contemporary dance technique, improvisation and composition at various institutions in Germany and abroad. She has worked as a répétiteur for Sasha Waltz & Guests since 2004 and as a dancer with the company from 2008 to 2018. In 2016 she was a guest dancer with the Susanne Linke Company in Trier for the production »Hommage à Dore Hoyer«.
