»Beethoven 7« celebrates its premiere in Italy

Sasha Waltz's choreography can be seen for the first time in Italy on 13. and 14. September at the Festival Romaeuropa.

The two-part evening »Beethoven 7» travels to Rome! Together with an ensemble of 14 dancers, Sasha Waltz dedicates the piece to the complete »Symphony No. 7 in A major (op. 92)« by Ludwig van Beethoven and presents the production at the Festival Romaeuropa. This special music, composed in 1812, resonates with questions of the time that still play a role for us today: The failure of a revolution, the (forced) return to old traditions, the friction between the desire for social transformation and restoration and the accompanying loss of freedom and prospects for the future.

To the live electronic sounds of Diego Noguera entitled »Freiheit/ Extasis«, which were created during the creative process, Sasha Waltz takes up these themes at the beginning of the evening and reinterprets them from a contemporary perspective: How do personal freedom and social constraints relate to each other?

We are delighted that the Italian premiere of »Beethoven 7« is taking place as part of our long-standing partnership with Festival Romaeuropa. Since 1980, the Festival has been held once a year in Rome as a multidisciplinary art festival in which famous artists from all over the world take part. Today, it is considered one of the largest art events in the world. At Romaeuropa, visitors can enjoy classical alongside modern compositions from various artistic genres such as theatre, dance and music.
We are delighted to have been invited to the festival several times and to have been able to present »Impromptus«, »Travelogue I – Twenty to eight« (2012), »Kreatur« (2017), »Dialoge Roma 2020 – Terra Sacra« (2020) and »In C« (2022) to Italian audiences since 2008.
