Sasha Waltz choreographed »Roméo et Juliette« for the Opéra national de Paris in 2007. The story of the unhappy lovers – whose families are such bitter enemies that they can only achieve understanding and reconciliation after the death of the main characters – inspired Hector Berlioz to compose the dramatic symphony for three soloists, two large choirs and an orchestra. »Roméo et Juliette« became part of the repertory of the Scala in Milan in the fall of 2012.

In 2015, »Roméo et Juliette« finally premiered in Berlin, danced by Sasha Waltz & Guests for the first time. These are the dancers with whom Sasha Waltz created this piece, her third choreographic opera after »Dido & Aeneas« (2005) and »Medea« (2007).

A coproduction of Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala di Milano and Sasha Waltz & Guests.
