Sasha Waltz & Guests online: Due to the necessary measurements regarding the corona pandemic we are unable to perform live on stage at the moment. But to make up for it three choreographies of Sasha Waltz are currently available worldwide online on ARTE Concert until the beginning of May 2020.
Amongst the selection is the filmic version of Sasha Waltz’ choreography »noBody« (2002), available on ARTE Concert until 8 Mai 2020 – click here for the Video-on-Demand.
»noBody« completes a choreographic cycle of three pieces about humans and their bodies which Sasha Waltz created in the years around the turn of the millennium. In her piece »Körper«, she investigated the materiality of the human being, relating the dancers‘ bodies to architecture, science and history. »S« searched for the origin of life, explored eros and sensibility. In »noBody« the choreographer and 25 dancers take on the challenge of visualizing the non-material and the idea of the spiritual beyond the body, thus questioning the mystery of human existence and death.
From April 2nd to 13th 2020 Sasha Waltz & Guests had planned to present a retrospective at the Volksbühne Berlin. The programme, which also encompassed an exhibition and film programme as well as performative interventions, would have started with the revival of Sasha Waltz‘ choreography »noBody« from 2002.
»noBody« was last performed on a Berlin stage in September 2008 at the Schaubühne Berlin. The production was invited to te renowned Festival d’Avignon in 2002. 2012 the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani took the choreography into their repertoire. The filmic version of »noBody«, the third and last part of Sasha Waltz‘ famous »Körper«-Trilogy, was produced in 2000 by nachtaktivfilm, commissioned by ZDF/ARTE.
On the occasion of the online-streamings we have gone though our archive to give our audience some further insights into the choreography. Enjoy!
