»Körper« at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele

This March and April 2017, Sasha Waltz & Guests brings the legendary choreography »Körper« by Sasha Waltz again back to Berlin: We will show the piece – after four sold-out shows in last November – at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele

»Körper« means bodies. »Körper« engages dancers in a particularly rich variety of movement. Linking architecture and body, Körper asks the questions: What is the body? How is it constructed? The dance analyzes morality, the quest for immortality, and investigates reproduction in the age of genetic manipulation.

Sasha Waltz looks at the bodies in everyday situations. She beserves their matter, their nudity, their rythms. She measures and weighs them, counts hair, pours the liquids out, trades the organs. She arranges the bodies of thirteen dancers in order to create a serie of spectacular tableaux vivants.

Since its world premiere in 2000 this choreography travels around the world – upcoming 30,31 March and 1 April it return to the Festspielhaus at Schaperstraße.

In 1999 Sasha Waltz started working on her worldwide celebrated three-piece choreographic cycle about the human body with the project »Dialoge `99/II« in the new Jewish museum built by Daniel Libeskind in Berlin. In »Körper«, following up this extraordinary research, she investigates the anatomy and the physical appearance of the human being, relating her dancers’ bodies to architecture, science, and history. »S« searches for the origin of life, of Eros, and of sensibility. »noBody« asks about the metaphysical existence of humanity.
