Community Day »Dance in the Garden« on October 3rd

Together with Berlin Mondiale Sasha Waltz & Guests I Education & Community closes its open air season 2021 with two dance workshops in the beautiful autumn garden of Nachbarschaftscampus Dammweg. Dance with us under open sky or in the glass houses and let’s celebrate the last warm days and good Berlin neighbourhood! No previous knowledge required, just interest in moving together as a group.

Raqs Sharki / Baladi Dance with Nora Amin

Based on the vocabulary of Baladi Dance/Raqs Sharqi, Nora Amin will offer a workshop that fuses dance technique with body knowledge and personal signatures. Designed to fit with all levels and ages, the experience is supposed to function as an artistic expression, as a physical exercise, and as a space for feminist empowerment, sharing and celebration. After Berlin Mondiale workshops at Wasserwerk now for the first time at Nachbarschaftscampus Dammweg.

Nora Amin is choreographer, performer, author and theatre director. Founder of the nation-wide Egyptian Project of »Theatre of the Oppressed«, author of »Dance of the Persecuted« a feminist approach to the decolonisation of the history of belly dance, and of »Migrating the Feminine« on the transgressions of female physicality and sexual abuse as a weapon of patriarchy. Mentor/expert at LAFT/PAP, and at Flausen+ Bundesnetzwerk. Board member of the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute. Dance instructor with Wasserwerk program/Berlin Mondiale and Tanzfabrik summer program since 2019.

The workshop is open to women of all ages and is in Arabic and English. Please wear comfortable clothes, possibly sports shoes, a light scarf, and something warm on top. We will dance keeping the distance.

Dabke Community Dancing with Medhat Aldabaal (Dance) and Ali Hasan (Music)

For some years now Sasha Waltz & Guests and Berlin Mondiale have been presenting »Dabke Community Dancing« with Medhat Aldaabal and Ali Hasan – and will now for the first time invite to dance at Nachbarschaftscampus Dammweg. The traditional circle dance is popular in many different variations in the Middle East. In its Berlin version it combines the enthusiasm of the two Syrian artists with the excitement of the local audiences and new contemporary forms.

»At the end all participants smiled and that was the most beautiful of all. When I see that people are happy and smiling, then I feel that I become part of this country and the country part of me.« (Medhat Aldaabal)

The Workshop is open to people of all ages 12 years and older and is in German and English. We will dance keeping the distance.
